Atterberg Limits मृदा की consistency को विभिन्न नमी स्तरों पर मापने का तरीका है। यह मुख्यतः fine-grained soil (जैसे clay और silt) की plasticity और behavior को दर्शाता है।

📌 तीन मुख्य Atterberg Limits:

1. Liquid Limit (LL): वह moisture content (%) जिस पर soil liquid की तरह व्यवहार करती है।
2. Plastic Limit (PL): वह moisture content जिस पर soil बिना टूटे पतली पट्टी में बदली जा सकती है।
3. Shrinkage Limit (SL): वह moisture content जिस पर soil further shrink नहीं करती।

• Soil paste को brass cup में रखें और groove बनाएं।
• Device को operate करें और groove बंद होने तक number of blows count करें।
• Moisture content उस blow संख्या (usually 25) पर निकाली जाती है।

🔸 Plastic Limit:

• Soil को roll कर 3mm diameter की पट्टी बनाएं।
• जब soil पट्टी बिना टूटे बनती है – वहीं उसका PL होता है।

🔸 Shrinkage Limit:

• Soil को mold में भरें और dry करें।
• Volume में कोई और परिवर्तन नहीं होने पर moisture content को shrinkage limit माना जाता है।
