Soil Mechanics में soil को उसकी consolidation history के आधार पर classify किया जाता है। इसमें तीन मुख्य प्रकार होते हैं – Normally Consolidated Soil (NCS), Over Consolidated Soil (OCS) और Under Consolidated Soil। यहाँ हम Over Consolidated Soil और Under Consolidated Soil के बीच के अंतर को detail में समझेंगे।

Over Consolidated Soil (OCS)

यदि soil ने past में अपने ऊपर present effective stress से अधिक stress experience किया हो, तो उसे Over Consolidated Soil

👉 इस soil का over consolidation ratio (OCR > 1) होता है।

👉 यह soil comparatively stiffer होती है और settlement कम करती है।

👉 Past load removal, erosion या desiccation की वजह से ऐसा होता है।

Under Consolidated Soil

यदि soil के pore water को बाहर निकलने का पूरा समय न मिला हो और soil अभी भी settlement कर रही हो, तो उसे Under Consolidated Soil

👉 इसका मतलब है कि soil अभी पूरी तरह consolidate नहीं हुई है।

👉 इस soil में load लगाने पर excess pore water pressure develop होता है।

👉 यह soil construction के लिए बहुत risky हो सकती है क्योंकि settlement unpredictable रहता है।

Over Consolidated Soil vs Under Consolidated Soil

Stress History: OCS ने past में higher stress bear किया है, जबकि Under Consolidated Soil अभी भी consolidation process में है।

Settlement: OCS में settlement कम होता है, जबकि Under Consolidated Soil में settlement अभी ongoing होता है।

Engineering Use: OCS strong और stable होती है, जबकि Under Consolidated Soil unsafe मानी जाती है।
