Stages of Combustion कितने होते हैं और कैसे होते हैं?

Internal combustion engine में combustion process एकदम instant नहीं होता, बल्कि यह अलग-अलग stages में होता है। हर stage का अपना role होता है और यह engine की performance और efficiency को प्रभावित करता है।

Combustion के मुख्य Stages

Petrol (SI – Spark Ignition) engine में combustion के तीन मुख्य stages होते हैं, जबकि Diesel (CI – Compression Ignition) engine में चार stages माने जाते हैं।

1. Ignition Delay Period

Ignition delay वह समय है जो spark plug से spark आने या fuel injection के बाद fuel-air mixture के self-ignition तक लगता है। यह period बहुत छोटा होता है, लेकिन इसका सही होना बहुत जरूरी है।

2. Flame Propagation (SI Engine) / Uncontrolled Combustion (CI Engine)

इस stage में flame front fuel-air mixture में फैलता है और cylinder pressure तेजी से बढ़ता है। SI engine में यह flame propagation कहलाता है, जबकि CI engine में यह uncontrolled combustion phase कहलाता है क्योंकि यहां pressure rise rate बहुत ज्यादा होता है।

3. Controlled Combustion (CI Engine) / Rapid Combustion (SI Engine)

इस stage में fuel का जलना control में आता है। SI engine में इसे rapid combustion कहा जाता है जहां peak pressure develop होता है। CI engine में इसे controlled combustion कहा जाता है ताकि knocking से बचा जा सके।

4. Afterburning Stage

Combustion का आखिरी stage है जहां cylinder में बचा हुआ fuel-air mixture धीरे-धीरे जलता है। इस समय pressure गिरना शुरू हो जाता है लेकिन temperature काफी high रहता है।
