Standards and Calibration in Instrumentation

Instrumentation system में measurement की accuracy और reliability सुनिश्चित करने के लिए दो महत्वपूर्ण चीजें होती हैं – Standards और Calibration।

1. Standards (मानक)

Standards वे reference values होते हैं जिनके साथ किसी instrument के reading की तुलना की जाती है। ये national या international मानकों पर आधारित होते हैं।

Types of Standards:

• a. International Standards: SI units, maintained by international bodies (जैसे – BIPM)
• b. Primary Standards: Highest accuracy वाले reference devices (e.g. platinum resistance thermometer)
• c. Secondary Standards: Primary से calibrated होते हैं, lab use के लिए
• d. Working Standards: Daily calibration और testing के लिए इस्तेमाल होते हैं

Example: एक calibrated mercury thermometer एक standard की तरह act कर सकता है।

2. Calibration (अभिकलन)

Calibration वह process है जिसमें किसी instrument की output को reference standard से compare किया जाता है और deviation को सही किया जाता है।

Why Calibration is Needed?

• Measurement accuracy सुनिश्चित करने के लिए
• Instrument की performance check करने के लिए
• Long-term reliability बनाए रखने के लिए

Steps in Calibration Process:

1. Reference standard तैयार करना
2. Instrument को zero या base value पर set करना
3. Different known values पर input देना
4. Instrument reading को compare करना
5. Error analyze करके correction apply करना

Calibration Certificate

Calibration के बाद एक certificate issue किया जाता है जिसमें error, date, technician details, reference standard आदि की जानकारी होती है।

Frequency of Calibration

• Periodically (monthly, yearly)
• After repair or relocation
• When accuracy is doubted
