What is Pattern? Types, Pattern Allowances and Applications

Pattern Casting Process का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण भाग है। किसी भी Casting का Shape, Size तथा Accuracy मुख्य रूप से Pattern पर निर्भर करती है। Pattern एक Replica (प्रतिरूप) होता है जो Final Casting के आकार के समान बनाया जाता है तथा Mould Cavity तैयार करने के लिए उपयोग किया जाता है। Pattern सामान्यतः Wood, Metal, Plastic, Wax या अन्य Materials से बनाया जाता है।

Foundry Industry में किसी भी Casting की शुरुआत Pattern से होती है। यदि Pattern सही प्रकार से Design नहीं किया गया हो तो Final Casting में कई Defects उत्पन्न हो सकते हैं। इसलिए Pattern Design एवं Pattern Allowances Manufacturing Process का महत्वपूर्ण विषय है।

Introduction

Casting Process में सबसे पहले Pattern बनाया जाता है। इसी Pattern की सहायता से Mould तैयार किया जाता है। Molten Metal Mould Cavity में Fill होकर उसी Shape की Casting बनाता है। इसलिए Pattern को Casting का आधार (Foundation of Casting) कहा जाता है।

Definition of Pattern

Pattern Materials

Types of Pattern

Casting Industry में विभिन्न प्रकार की Casting Requirements के अनुसार अलग-अलग प्रकार के Patterns उपयोग किए जाते हैं।

1. Single Piece Pattern

Single Piece Pattern सबसे सरल Pattern होता है। इसे Solid Pattern भी कहा जाता है। इसका उपयोग Simple Shape तथा Small Size Castings के निर्माण में किया जाता है।

2. Split Pattern

Split Pattern दो भागों में बनाया जाता है जिन्हें Upper Half तथा Lower Half कहा जाता है। यह सबसे अधिक उपयोग होने वाला Pattern है तथा Complex Shape Castings के लिए उपयुक्त होता है।

3. Match Plate Pattern

Match Plate Pattern में दोनों Pattern Halves एक Metal Plate पर Fixed रहते हैं। यह High Production तथा Automatic Moulding Machines में उपयोग किया जाता है।

4. Loose Piece Pattern

Loose Piece Pattern उन Components के लिए उपयोग किया जाता है जिनमें Undercuts या Complex Projections होती हैं। Pattern के कुछ भाग अलग-अलग Remove किए जाते हैं जिससे Mould Damage नहीं होता।

5. Sweep Pattern

Sweep Pattern बड़े Circular Components जैसे Pipe, Bell तथा Large Cylindrical Castings बनाने के लिए उपयोग किया जाता है। इसमें पूरा Pattern नहीं बनाया जाता बल्कि एक Sweep Board को Rotate करके Mould तैयार किया जाता है।

6. Skeleton Pattern

Skeleton Pattern बड़े एवं Simple Shape Castings के लिए उपयोग किया जाता है। इसमें केवल Framework तैयार किया जाता है तथा शेष Mould को Sand द्वारा Fill किया जाता है। इससे Pattern बनाने की Cost कम हो जाती है।

Pattern Allowances

Pattern को Final Casting के समान Dimension में नहीं बनाया जाता। Metal की Shrinkage, Machining तथा Pattern Removal को ध्यान में रखते हुए अतिरिक्त Dimensions जोड़ी जाती हैं जिन्हें Pattern Allowances कहा जाता है।

Types of Pattern Allowances

1. Shrinkage Allowance

जब Molten Metal ठंडा होकर Solid बनता है तब उसका Volume कम हो जाता है। इस Dimensional Reduction की पूर्ति के लिए Pattern का आकार वास्तविक Casting से थोड़ा बड़ा बनाया जाता है। इसे Shrinkage Allowance कहते हैं।

2. Machining Allowance

Casting प्राप्त होने के बाद उसकी Surface पर Machining की जाती है। इसलिए Pattern पर अतिरिक्त Metal छोड़ा जाता है जिसे Machining Allowance कहा जाता है।

3. Draft Allowance

Pattern को Mould से आसानी से निकालने के लिए उसकी Vertical Surfaces पर हल्का Taper दिया जाता है। इस Taper को Draft Allowance कहते हैं।

4. Shake Allowance

Pattern निकालते समय हल्का कंपन (Rapping) दिया जाता है जिससे Mould Cavity थोड़ी बड़ी हो जाती है। इसकी पूर्ति के लिए Pattern का आकार थोड़ा कम रखा जाता है। इसे Shake Allowance कहते हैं।

5. Distortion Allowance

कुछ Long या Curved Castings Cooling के दौरान मुड़ (Warp) जाती हैं। इस समस्या को ध्यान में रखकर Pattern में पहले से आवश्यक Correction किया जाता है जिसे Distortion Allowance कहते हैं।
