URL (Uniform Resource Locator)

URL (Uniform Resource Locator) Internet तथा World Wide Web (WWW) का एक अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण भाग है। URL किसी भी Web Page, Website, Image, Video, Document अथवा अन्य Online Resource का Unique Address होता है। जिस प्रकार किसी घर का Address उसकी पहचान बताता है, उसी प्रकार URL Internet पर उपलब्ध किसी Resource की पहचान तथा Location बताता है। Web Browser URL की सहायता से संबंधित Web Server तक पहुँचता है और User को आवश्यक Information उपलब्ध कराता है।

Structure of URL

एक URL कई Components से मिलकर बना होता है। प्रत्येक Component का अपना विशेष कार्य होता है।

Components of URL

URL के प्रत्येक भाग का अलग-अलग उद्देश्य होता है। Browser इन्हीं Components के आधार पर Resource को Locate करता है।

Protocol (Scheme)

Protocol यह निर्धारित करता है कि Browser तथा Server के बीच Communication किस नियम (Protocol) के अनुसार होगी। सामान्य Protocols में HTTP, HTTPS, FTP तथा Mailto शामिल हैं।

Domain Name

Domain Name किसी Website का Human Readable Address होता है। DNS (Domain Name System) इसकी सहायता से Domain Name को IP Address में परिवर्तित करता है।

Port Number

Port Number Server पर चल रही किसी विशेष Service की पहचान करता है। यदि Port Number URL में न दिया जाए तो Browser Default Port का उपयोग करता है, जैसे HTTP के लिए 80 तथा HTTPS के लिए 443।

Path

Path Server पर उपलब्ध किसी विशेष File अथवा Resource का Location दर्शाता है।

Query String

Query String URL का वह भाग होता है जो अतिरिक्त Parameters Server को भेजने के लिए उपयोग किया जाता है। यह सामान्यतः ? चिन्ह से प्रारम्भ होता है तथा एक या अधिक Key-Value Pairs रख सकता है।

Fragment Identifier

Fragment Identifier URL का अंतिम भाग होता है जो किसी Web Page के विशेष Section तक सीधे पहुँचने के लिए उपयोग किया जाता है। यह # चिन्ह से प्रारम्भ होता है।

Absolute URL

Absolute URL वह पूर्ण (Complete) URL होता है जिसमें Protocol, Domain Name तथा Resource Path सहित सभी Components शामिल होते हैं। यह किसी भी स्थान से Resource को Access करने के लिए उपयोग किया जा सकता है।

Relative URL

Relative URL केवल वर्तमान Website अथवा Directory के आधार पर Resource का Path बताता है। इसमें Domain Name तथा Protocol शामिल नहीं होते।
