Introduction

Concrete आधुनिक Civil Engineering की सबसे महत्वपूर्ण Construction Material है। किसी भी Concrete Structure की Safety, Stability तथा Durability उसकी Strength पर निर्भर करती है। Concrete की विभिन्न Strength Properties उसके विभिन्न प्रकार के Loads को सहन करने की क्षमता को दर्शाती हैं।

Strength Properties का अध्ययन Engineers को यह निर्धारित करने में सहायता करता है कि Concrete किसी Building, Bridge, Dam या Industrial Structure के लिए उपयुक्त है या नहीं।

Definition of Strength of Concrete

Concrete की विभिन्न प्रकार के External Loads को बिना Failure के सहन करने की क्षमता को Strength of Concrete कहा जाता है।

Compressive Strength

Concrete की Compression Load को सहन करने की क्षमता को Compressive Strength कहा जाता है। यह Concrete की सबसे महत्वपूर्ण Strength Property होती है।

Compressive Strength को Cube Test या Cylinder Test द्वारा मापा जाता है।

Tensile Strength

Concrete की Tension Force को सहन करने की क्षमता को Tensile Strength कहा जाता है।

Concrete की Tensile Strength उसकी Compressive Strength की तुलना में बहुत कम होती है।

इसी कारण RCC में Steel Reinforcement का उपयोग किया जाता है।

Flexural Strength

Bending Load को सहन करने की क्षमता को Flexural Strength कहा जाता है।

Road Slabs, Beams तथा Pavements में Flexural Strength का विशेष महत्व होता है।

Shear Strength

Concrete की Shearing Force को सहन करने की क्षमता को Shear Strength कहा जाता है।

Beams तथा Structural Members में Shear Failure को रोकने के लिए पर्याप्त Reinforcement प्रदान की जाती है।

Bond Strength

Concrete तथा Reinforcement Steel के बीच Adhesion एवं Grip की क्षमता को Bond Strength कहा जाता है।

अच्छी Bond Strength RCC Structures की Stability के लिए आवश्यक है।

Proper Curing से Cement Hydration पूर्ण होती है तथा Concrete की Strength एवं Durability बढ़ती है।

Concrete की Strength समय के साथ बढ़ती है। सामान्यतः 28 Days की Strength को Design Strength माना जाता है।
