Introduction to Reported Speech
English Grammar में Reported Speech एक महत्वपूर्ण Topic है। इसका उपयोग किसी व्यक्ति द्वारा कही गई बात को उसी रूप में या परिवर्तित रूप में प्रस्तुत करने के लिए किया जाता है। Communication Skills, Business Communication, Technical Communication, Interviews, Report Writing तथा Professional Correspondence में Reported Speech का महत्वपूर्ण स्थान है।
जब हम किसी व्यक्ति के शब्दों को ज्यों का त्यों प्रस्तुत करते हैं तो उसे Direct Speech कहते हैं और जब उन्हीं शब्दों को अपने शब्दों में प्रस्तुत करते हैं तो उसे Indirect Speech या Reported Speech कहा जाता है।
Definition of Reported Speech
Reported Speech is the method of expressing what someone has said without necessarily quoting the exact words.
Reported Speech दो प्रकार की होती है:

Direct Speech
जब Speaker के Exact Words को Quotation Marks (" ") के अंदर लिखा जाता है तो उसे Direct Speech कहते हैं।

Direct Speech reproduces the exact words spoken by a person.

Reporting Verb + "Reported Speech"

Indirect Speech
जब किसी व्यक्ति के कथन को उसके मूल शब्दों के बिना अपने शब्दों में व्यक्त किया जाता है तो उसे Indirect Speech कहते हैं।

Indirect Speech reports the meaning of what someone said rather than the exact words.

Components of Reported Speech
1. Reporting Verb
यह वह Verb होती है जो Speaker की बात को प्रस्तुत करती है।

यह वह कथन होता है जो Speaker द्वारा कहा गया हो।
General Rules for Changing Direct Speech into Indirect Speech
Rule 1: Remove Inverted Commas
Indirect Speech में Quotation Marks हटा दिए जाते हैं।
Example:
- Direct: He said, "I am happy."
- Indirect: He said that he was happy.
Rule 2: Use of Conjunction "That"
Assertive Sentences में "that" का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
- She said, "I am ready."
- She said that she was ready.

Question Sentences को Indirect Speech में बदलते समय Asked का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
Yes/No Questions

Imperative Sentences
Imperative Sentences में Requested, Ordered, Advised, Commanded आदि Reporting Verbs का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

Exclamatory Sentences
Exclamatory Sentences में Exclaimed, Exclaimed with Joy, Exclaimed with Sorrow आदि का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
