Power Alcohol and Biodiesel (वैकल्पिक ईंधन)

वर्तमान समय में Fossil Fuels जैसे Petrol और Diesel के अत्यधिक उपयोग के कारण ऊर्जा संकट तथा पर्यावरण प्रदूषण की समस्या बढ़ रही है। इसलिए Renewable Energy Sources एवं Alternative Fuels का महत्व लगातार बढ़ रहा है। Engineering Chemistry में Power Alcohol तथा Biodiesel महत्वपूर्ण Alternative Fuels माने जाते हैं जो Renewable Resources से प्राप्त होते हैं और पर्यावरण के लिए अपेक्षाकृत सुरक्षित हैं।

🔹 Alternative Fuel क्या है?

ऐसे Fuels जो पारंपरिक Fossil Fuels का विकल्प प्रदान करते हैं तथा Renewable Sources से प्राप्त किए जाते हैं, Alternative Fuels कहलाते हैं।

Power Alcohol तथा Biodiesel इसी श्रेणी के प्रमुख Fuels हैं।

🔹 Power Alcohol क्या है?

Power Alcohol वह Fuel है जो Ethyl Alcohol (Ethanol) तथा Petrol के मिश्रण से तैयार किया जाता है और Internal Combustion Engines में उपयोग किया जाता है।

सामान्यतः Petrol में 5% से 25% तक Ethanol मिलाकर Power Alcohol तैयार किया जाता है।

Power Alcohol के निर्माण के लिए Ethanol का उत्पादन Fermentation Process द्वारा किया जाता है।

Step 1: Fermentation

Sugar या Molasses को Yeast की सहायता से Ferment किया जाता है।

C₆H₁₂O₆ → 2C₂H₅OH + 2CO₂

Step 2: Distillation

Fermented Solution से Ethanol को Distillation द्वारा पृथक किया जाता है।

Step 3: Blending

Ethanol को Petrol के साथ निश्चित अनुपात में मिलाया जाता है।

यह मिश्रण Power Alcohol कहलाता है।

Reaction

इस प्रक्रिया में Catalyst के रूप में NaOH या KOH का उपयोग किया जाता है।
