Classification of Lubricants (स्नेहकों का वर्गीकरण)
Engineering Chemistry में Lubricants का वर्गीकरण एक महत्वपूर्ण विषय है। विभिन्न Industrial Applications तथा Operating Conditions के अनुसार अलग-अलग प्रकार के Lubricants का उपयोग किया जाता है। Lubricants को मुख्य रूप से उनकी Physical State तथा Properties के आधार पर वर्गीकृत किया जाता है।
🔹 Lubricants का Classification
Physical State के आधार पर Lubricants को तीन मुख्य वर्गों में विभाजित किया जाता है:
- Liquid Lubricants
- Semi-Solid Lubricants
- Solid Lubricants
1. Liquid Lubricants (द्रव स्नेहक)
वे Lubricants जो सामान्य तापमान पर द्रव (Liquid) अवस्था में होते हैं, Liquid Lubricants कहलाते हैं।
ये सबसे अधिक उपयोग किए जाने वाले Lubricants हैं।

1. Mineral Oils
Petroleum Refining से प्राप्त Lubricating Oils।

2. Animal Oils
पशुओं से प्राप्त Oils।
Examples:
- Lard Oil
- Neats Foot Oil
3. Vegetable Oils
वनस्पतियों से प्राप्त Oils।
Examples:
- Castor Oil
- Cotton Seed Oil
- Palm Oil
4. Synthetic Oils
रासायनिक प्रक्रियाओं द्वारा निर्मित Oils।

- Silicone Oils
- Ester Oils

वे Lubricants जो अर्ध-ठोस (Semi-Solid) अवस्था में होते हैं, Semi-Solid Lubricants कहलाते हैं। इन्हें सामान्यतः Greases कहा जाता है।
Grease, Lubricating Oil तथा Thickening Agent (Soap) का मिश्रण होता है।

Water Resistant Grease

2. Sodium Grease
High Temperature Applications के लिए उपयोगी।

4. Aluminium Grease
Corrosion Resistant Grease।

3. Solid Lubricants (ठोस स्नेहक)
कुछ परिस्थितियों में Liquid एवं Semi-Solid Lubricants उपयोगी नहीं होते। अत्यधिक तापमान, Vacuum तथा High Load Conditions में Solid Lubricants का उपयोग किया जाता है।

Types of Solid Lubricants
1. Graphite
Graphite की Layered Structure के कारण इसकी Lubricating Property उत्कृष्ट होती है।

- Good Electrical Conductivity
2. Molybdenum Disulphide (MoS₂)
High Pressure एवं High Temperature Applications में उपयोग किया जाता है।
Properties:
- Excellent Load Carrying Capacity
- Very Low Friction
- Works in Vacuum
3. PTFE (Teflon)
Extremely Low Friction Material।
Applications:
- Bearings
- Aircraft Components
- Chemical Equipment
