Alkalinity of Water (जल की क्षारीयता) क्या है?
Engineering Chemistry में Alkalinity of Water एक महत्वपूर्ण विषय है। जल में उपस्थित ऐसे पदार्थ जो अम्ल (Acid) को उदासीन (Neutralize) करने की क्षमता रखते हैं, जल की क्षारीयता (Alkalinity) कहलाती है।
दूसरे शब्दों में, जल की अम्ल को निष्क्रिय करने की क्षमता को Alkalinity कहते हैं। यह जल की गुणवत्ता का एक महत्वपूर्ण मापदंड है।

1. Hydroxide Alkalinity
जब जल में OH⁻ आयन उपस्थित होते हैं तो Hydroxide Alkalinity उत्पन्न होती है।

🔹 Phenolphthalein Alkalinity (P-Alkalinity)
Phenolphthalein Indicator का उपयोग करके प्राप्त Alkalinity को P-Alkalinity कहते हैं।
यह Hydroxide तथा Carbonate Alkalinity को दर्शाती है।
🔹 Total Alkalinity (M-Alkalinity)
Methyl Orange Indicator का उपयोग करके प्राप्त Alkalinity को Total Alkalinity या M-Alkalinity कहते हैं।
यह Hydroxide, Carbonate तथा Bicarbonate Alkalinity का कुल मान होता है।
